NSP Ski School Program Goes National PDF Print E-mail
(from the 11/30/09 issue of NSP Final Sweep)

The NSP Ski School was created to support the idea that teaching NSP patrollers to ski better will allow them to be better patrollers. It also made possible the availability of liability insurance coverage for patrollers who provide ski instruction to other patrollers. Until this year that insurance was only available in a few divisions, however, this year the policy was restructured to allow members from all divisions to participate in the ski school insurance program.
The insurance policy provides a two-million-dollar liability coverage for NSP members while engaged in instructing an organized ski lesson to other NSP patrollers and prospective patrollers (toboggan handling instruction is not covered by this insurance). It also provides a $25,000 Excess Accident Medical coverage for the instructor and students. An NSP member can sign up for the insurance coverage for $66 annually, and the policy period is Nov. 1, 2009-Oct. 31, 2010.
There will be no change in the sign-up, collection and processing of instructor enrollment fees for NSP divisions that have an existing ski school program (Southern, Central). Patrollers in those divisions will continue to sign up with their region and division ski school reps. But members of divisions that do not have a formal ski school program can now go to the new national ski school website http://www.nspskischool.com and access an application form and details on how to enroll. (The site is still under development, but the application is posted, with more info to come shortly.)
